Course Description
Participants will deepen their project-based work by exploring issues of design, assessment, ownership, and exhibition. Using a consultancy model along with various templates for PBL design and assessment, participants will reflect upon past and current projects and plan future ones. Special attention will be paid to working and consulting with colleagues and community partners on project development.
Essential Questions
• How can we design exemplary projects that emphasize personalization, connect to the world beyond school, and offer access and challenge to all learners?
• How can we work with colleagues and community partners toward a culture of deep learning through projects?
Final Project/Presentation
The final project for this course is the “signature assignment” for the Program Learning Outcome, Instructional Design (D1): Design project-based approaches to learning that emphasize personalization, connect to the world beyond school, and offer access and challenge to all learners. Participants will apply concepts from the course to a project design, product prototype, and artist’s statement, to be posted on the GSE Forum and presented at the final course meeting. Drafts of project components will be shared for peer critique throughout the course. See “Designing a Project for Deeper Learning” at the end of this document. The written components of the final project are in the documents below.
