Course Description
We believe that meaningful change comes from within, and schools are no exception. This course explores how change happens in schools, and the informal and formal roles that teacher leaders and school leaders play n school change efforts. Special attention will be devoted to articulating our dreams for our schools, and working with colleagues and students to enact change in our own school sites that reflects a shared vision.
Essential Questions
· How does change happen in schools?
· How can we work with colleagues, students, and communities to build more equitable and engaging schools?
Final Product
The document below is the final product for this course. It is a proposal & reflection discussing:
· The Dream– the learning and teaching environment you aspire to and the common ground you discovered in conversations with colleagues about their dreams
· The Reality – the challenges/issues you want to address in your own school to bring it closer to your collective dreams, and any bright spots you can build upon
· The Changes - the reforms/actions you propose (limit this to three or fewer), how they address the above reality, and how they will create more equitable, engaging learning environments for young people
· The Step - the one action you took or are taking, how you engaged colleagues and/or students in the process, the questions that emerged, and the future actions you will take in collaboration with others (with a proposed timeline for doing so)
· Your Engagement with Colleagues/Supervisors/Students – What was challenging about engaging with others? What was wonderful or surprising? How do you hope to continue to grow as a leader and a collaborator? What are your lingering questions?
